Understanding Skills Progression in Our Skating Program

Progress Happens at Different Speeds

In our skating program, skaters do not automatically advance to the next level every 8 weeks. Every child develops skating skills at their own pace, and progress does not always follow a fixed timeline.

Focus on Strong Fundamentals

Our program places a strong emphasis on proper skill development and foundational techniques. Some younger skaters may simply need additional time and practice to fully master certain skills. This is a completely normal—and valuable—part of the learning process.

Building Skills Step by Step

Ice skating is a building-block sport, where each skill supports the next stage of development. By focusing on strong fundamentals, we help skaters:

  • Build confidence on the ice

  • Develop proper technique

  • Skate safely

  • Reduce the risk of injury as skills become more advanced

End-of-Session Evaluations

At the end of each session, skaters receive an evaluation. These evaluations inform families whether:

  • All skills for the level have been mastered, or

  • Some skills may need additional time and focus before advancing

This process ensures that every skater moves forward with the strong foundation needed for long-term success on the ice.
